Not every Bride and Groom are religious. In fact, many choose to have weddings with nothing to do with churches. This is perfectly fine. Officiants come in the form of priests and preachers as well as judges and even cousins (anyone can be ordained a Wedding Officiant simply by completing a program online), so check your Officiant’s certification before paying them to perform your wedding.
Settle your questions as soon as you meet potential Officiants to save time. Discuss your faith(s)—for example, if you and your fiancé are of different ones—as well as your plans for vows: are you writing your own or staying traditional? Find out if the Officiant requires marriage counseling or your membership in his or her church/faith. Ask about restrictions and fees, and take the time to see if your Officiant can suggest a site, if the wedding is not taking place in a church.
The person who marries you to your most loved one should be the kind of person you're comfortable with. Don’t be intimidated by someone’s personality or opinions; remember, this is your wedding.
